Casa Bianca was designed in 1911
to house as a country mansion the
Italian-Jewish Fernandez family. It
is surrounded by the romanticism
of the forbidden love between Aline,
Fernandez’ daughter, and Christian
army officer Spyros Alibertis, who
believed in different religions and
their marriage then would be
unconceivable. The couple eloped,
causing scandal, but later on their
relations with the family were restored
and they returned to Thessaloniki
and Casa Bianca, married. Today, the
excellently restored mansion houses
the Municipal Gallery.
Near the Aghia Sophia church is the
Longos Mansion, also known as the
Red House. It was built circa 1926-
1928 for the family of the textile
tycoon Grigorios Longos from the
town of Naoussa. Not many years
have passed and the family was
financially ruined. Scenarios and
rumors for a “curse” of the Red
House have being growing ever since,
even that vampires are wandering
the nights in the mansion’s rooms.
The only person who may confirm Casa Bianca, Longos Mansion, White House: 3 manor houses
the rumors –or break the curse– is in Thessaloniki and Corfu that housed dreams, hopes and a
