RINGS A BELL?
There is something imposing and at the same time reviving watching up close hundreds of goat-like figures wearing fleeces
all over their body and masks, holding two big bells and dancing on the roads of Thessaloniki producing deafening sounds. The
impressive custom of Kodonoforoi (The Bell bearers) has its roots in the Neolithic period, when man created ceremonies to
summon mysterious forces which would shoo away the evil and bring a year of prosperity and fertility. Υπάρχει κάτι το επιβλητικό
και ταυτόχρονα αναζωογονητικό στο να παρακολουθείς από κοντά εκατοντάδες τραγόμορφες φιγούρες με ολόσωμες προβιές,
μάσκες και δύο μεγάλα κουδούνια να χορεύουν στους κεντρικούς δρόμους της Θεσσαλονίκης παράγοντας έναν εκκωφαντικό
ήχο. Το εντυπωσιακό έθιμο των κωδωνοφόρων ή «Οι Δρόμοι του Κουδουνιού» έχει τις ρίζες του στη Νεολιθική περίοδο, όπου
ο άνθρωπος επινοούσε τελετές για να καλέσει μυστηριακές δυνάμεις, που θα ξορκίσουν το κακό και θα φέρουν μια χρονιά
