city’s political history. In 1933 Dore moved to
Tsirogianni Square at the White Tower and
continued to record the history of the people
of Thessaloniki until World War II. After
the war was declared, its friends and patrons
paid infrequent visits, while in April 1941 it
was expropriated by the Greek Red Cross,
which used half of the cafe as a workshop for
the making of disability equipment. Over
time, Dore became a hangout frequented by
many of the chiefs of the National Resistance
whereas in the following years it continued
to welcome eminent figures of the world
of politics and journalism. One of its most
regular customers, the late Ioannis Vellidis
editor in chief of Macedonia and Thessaloniki
newspapers, made Dore his second office and
at the permanently reserved corner table-
where he had his own land line- he accepted
        collaborators, politicians, decision makers
and friends. Despite remaining the main hub
where the country’s politicians met, the social
and economic conditions changed in the
post-war years and the bourgeoisie was slowly
replaced by the middle-class active in the
world of theatre and film making.
        Star Parade
Since 1960, when the Film and Song Festival
was inaugurated, the legendary café has
regained its place at the heart of events and
life in the city, but this time with a clearly
        artistic focus: organizers, artists, producers,
        directors, conductors, critics, journalists
representing the worlds of theatre, cinema
and singing, made their presence felt at the
Dore with overnight discussions, disputes, quarrels and plenty of shenanigans. DORE’S LUXURY SOFAS
The atmosphere became markedly theatrical and extraordinary. This was also WELCOMED BLUE
the period when Dore was passed on to the hands of Dimitris Xefteris, Morari’s
nephew, who breathed new life into the café every single day in his incredible BLOODS, POLITICIANS
manner. Known for his love of cinema, Thessaloniki’s most cosmopolitan AND FOREIGN
Viennese cafe owner was the man who also undertook the press briefing for the DELEGATIONS OF ARMY
festival, given the lack of an organized press office. The café was patronised by
famous artists of the domestic and the international stage alike, who won the OFFICERS AND SPIES ΑΠΟ

Due to its location close to the two major football fields of PAOK and Iraklis, ΚΑΤΑΣΚΟΠΩΝ
